Pound Cake

2 ½ c. sugar
1 c. butter, soft
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
1 c. milk or evaporated milk
Powdered sugar
Grease and flour bottom and side of 2 loaf pans. Beat sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs in a large bowl with electric mixer on low. Beat on high 5 minutes. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Beat flour mixture into sugar mixture alternately with mild on low speed beating until just smooth. Pour into pans. Bake at 350 for 55 to 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
